#63 Creating Space for Creativity to Flourish

If you're craving something different in your life—more meaning, more connection, more you—but you can’t quite put your finger on what’s missing, you’re not alone.  You may be feeling the pull toward something deeper, more fulfilling, more alive. And while the answers might feel unclear right now, I believe the doorway to that next chapter is closer than you think.

It starts with creativity.

Not the kind of creativity you need to be “good” at. Not the polished, performative kind that’s meant for other people’s approval. I’m talking about soul-nourishing, joy-sparking, deeply personal creativity—the kind that reconnects you with your inner voice and brings you back to life.  But here’s the catch: creativity doesn’t just show up on command. It needs space. It needs intention. It needs room to breathe.

So how do you make that space when your life already feels full? How do you start when you're not even sure where it's going?  You begin small. You begin with kindness. You begin by inviting creativity in.

10 Practical Ways to Make Space for Creativity

1. Schedule “Creative Appointments”Think of your creative time like a standing date with yourself. Even 20–30 minutes once a week can shift your energy and open new pathways.

Try: Saturday morning coffee + sketching, or an evening playlist + journaling session.

2. Create a Creative Nook (Even a Tiny One)Set up a space where your tools are easy to access. It doesn’t have to be Pinterest-worthy—just yours.

A tray with a journal, markers, or yarn can go a long way.

3. Set a “No-Outcome” IntentionForget about results. Your goal is presence, not perfection. This is your space to explore, not perform.

Say to yourself: “This is for me. There is no wrong way.”

4. Reclaim Time by Limiting DistractionsEven 10–15 minutes reclaimed from mindless scrolling or overcommitments can open space for joy.

Substitute phone time with play time.

5. Surround Yourself with InspirationFill your environment with beautiful, intriguing, or soulful things: art, music, plants, affirmations, meaningful photos.

Curate a corner or a mood board that lights you up.

6. Use In-Between Moments CreativelyWaiting in line or for water to boil? Let those moments become micro-creative breaks. Observe, sketch, breathe, snap a photo, or jot down a thought.

7. Engage the SensesLight a candle. Play music. Sip something warm. Sensory rituals help shift your brain into creative mode.

8. Take a Class or Try a Prompt ChallengeStructure can help you stay inspired. Explore a short online course or a week of daily prompts to ease in.

9. Make Room by Saying “No” to What No Longer Serves YouFreeing up energy is just as important as freeing up time. Say “no” with love so you can say “yes” with intention.

10. Give Yourself Permission to Begin You don’t need to be ready. You don’t need a plan. You just need permission. Yours.

Affirm: “I don’t have to earn creativity. I already have it inside me.”

A Creative Life Starts with One Step

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to begin—gently, intentionally. When you start honoring your creative voice, something magical happens. You remember who you are.

You become more present.  More joyful.  More you. Let creativity be your compass—not for where you're going, but for how you want to feel along the way.
