#56 Reignite Your Spark: Add a Creative Practice to Your Life Today

Let me ask you something: When was the last time you made something just for the joy of it?Not for work, not for the kids or grandkids, not because someone needed it — just for you.

If your answer is, “It’s been a while,” you’re not alone. Somewhere along the way — between caring for others, building careers, and managing the day-to-day — many of us lose touch with that part of ourselves that’s curious, playful, and full of wonder. But here’s the good news: it’s never too late to reconnect.

Adding a creative practice to your life isn’t about becoming an artist or making something “Instagram-worthy.” It’s about waking up that part of you that wants to feel alive, inspired, and just a little bit wild again.

Start Small — Really Small

No need to overhaul your life or carve out hours you don’t have. Start with ten minutes here and there. Doodle while your coffee brews. Keep a notebook by your bed to scribble dreams or ideas. A creative practice doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful — it just has to be yours.

Explore Like You’re Meeting Yourself Again

Try a few different things. Take a beginner-friendly class on Skillshare. Find a fun DIY project on Pinterest. Watch a YouTube video and follow along. Order a craft kit and make something with your hands. Play. Experiment. Be a beginner again — it’s exhilarating.

Let Go of Perfection

This isn’t about getting it “right.” In fact, the more you let go of that, the more rewarding it becomes. Creative time is your sacred space to explore and express without judgment. It’s not about the final product — it’s about the freedom you feel along the way.

Make It a Ritual, Not a Chore

Whether it’s a Saturday morning painting session or 15 minutes of journaling before bed, creating a routine around your practice makes it feel intentional. It becomes a date with yourself — one that you actually look forward to.

Reconnect with the World Around (and Inside) You

Inspiration is everywhere when you slow down enough to notice. Go for walks and really look at the colors around you. Visit a museum. People-watch in a café. Let your mind wander. Daydream. Ask questions. Be curious again. Creativity feeds on your experiences, your emotions, your observations.

Build a Simple Creative Toolkit

You don’t need a studio — just a small basket or drawer with a few supplies: a sketchbook, pens, some paints or markers, maybe a camera or even your phone. Something you can grab when the urge hits.

Create Just for You

This is about you. Your joy. Your growth. Your spark. It’s not for anyone else to approve or admire. This is your private little rebellion against routine — a way to remember who you are underneath all the roles you play.

It’s easy to get caught up in the idea that creativity belongs to the young or the “talented.” But that’s a lie. Creativity belongs to anyone who chooses to stay open, curious, and courageous enough to explore.  You have so much life inside of you. Let it out. Let it be messy. Let it be beautiful. Let it be yours.
